Santanyí now
700 years old and is one of the five richest municipalities
in Europe, largely due to the strong increase in the real
estate sector, construction and all types of businesses relating
to maintenance and services of country houses, this being
the principal source of the municipalities wealth. Santanyi
has conserved its surroundings, especially its interior,
and above all this is due to the type of people who have
established themselves here since the eighties.
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| Santanyi has a library, an area for O.A.P.'s, a sports
centre where in summer children’s activities are organized,
a swimming pool for summer and winter, a medical centre, municipal
and Guardia Civil police forces, post office and telegraph service,
a cultural centre and a cinema where there is a project to make
it into a municipal theatre. To be recognized is the excellent
work of the school of music and some private initiatives, like
S'Hort de Nigorra, who receive artists from all over the world,
and present their work in situ and at uncountable private parties
which take place during the whole year. Without doubt this is an
example of integration and living together. |

possibly boasts one of the most varied, cosmopolitan & international
groups of people, artists, business folk, famous people, musicians
and millionaires. Santanyi has a large number of companies in the
services & construction sector, many with years of experience.
There are excellent shops and a variety of skilled craftsmen in
stone, iron & ceramics. |
| |
|
|
|
|
|
Santanyi's main attraction is the hospitality
of it's people, open, tolerant & broadminded who create a
warming atmosphere which invites you to stay. The Consolación
with its unbeatable views, The National Park of Mondrago & parallel
bays of crystal clear water are nearby.
|
|
|
Cala
Santanyí also
offers numerous options, walks, horse riding, waterways ideal
for trips in canoes. El Pantas a rocky formation in an arch
form is a feature not to be missed. Cala Santany has many
services, restaurants and supermarkets with automatic cash
card machines. It has achieved a good balance maintaining
a worthy relationship between nature and areas of urbanization,
which permits it to differ from other turistic centres, in
maintaining a high level in quality for visitors.
|
|
|
|
|
Cala
D'or has the best private health alternatives
of the municipality located specially in the main avenue. It
also has a civic centre a post and telegraph office, tennis
club and a good bus service connecting to Palma and an excellent
number of beaches In these last few years a series of high
quality service companies, have installed themselves aiming
at the service and construction area. In the cultural field
there are the jazz festivals in summer. |
| |
|
|
|
|
|
The centre of Cala D'or offers the most complete range of leisure
on the coast; bars, terraces, shops and boutiques afford a range
of possibilities and the wide variety of excellent restaurants
offer everything from traditional Mallorcan food, to the best
in International cuisine.
It has possibly one of the best yacht clubs in the Mediterranean
which each year attract the most elite and best of luxury yachts
in Europe and a new exclusive yacht club is currently under construction.
The port also has various shops offering exclusives, where we
can find the latest in fashion and excellent restaurants. Another
attraction of Cala Dór is El Forti acquired and restored
by the Balearic Islands Foundation.
|
|
| Porto
Petro is one of the
few coastal enclaves which hasn’t sacrificed its charm
to the demands of mass tourism. Its port offers good services
and an unbeatable refuge for navigators. From Easter onwards
live music can be enjoyed once a week in the galeria (Port
Gallery) Porto Petro has known how to maintain its dimensions
respecting its enchanting surroundings, and we hope it will
remain this way. |
|
|
Portocolom is
a natural sheltered bay, very much appreciated by sailors,
maintaining a large amount of original buildings, facing the
sea, and this lends to an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
The old part of Portocolom dates back to the past century,
and serves as a second residence for the people of Felanitx,
a good many expatriates, especially English are now also settling
here. In summer the town offers a wide range of leisure activities.
A novelty in Portocolom is the opening of the restaurant "El
Cinco" to be found next to the church in one of the most
characteristic buildings of the village with a luxurious cuisine,
and it’s roof garden is without doubt one of the best
places to watch the sun set.
|
|
|
|
|
Portocristo is
one of the coastal resorts most visited during the summer vacations.
Set in a lovely, privileged yet strategic area with enchanting
surroundings and an extraordinarily beautiful bay. Its port,
the Caves of Drak (carstic caves), the subterranean lake called
Martel, and it’s Aquarius are the main reasons for attracting
the tourist trade, although it’s variety and the richness
of the surrounding countryside are not to be missed. |
|
|
Es
Carritxó is
in an incomparable setting which links the coast to the interior.
Its church is surprisingly large in view of the few houses
surrounding it but there are, in fact, a large number of
houses spread through the surrounding countryside. Its attractive
scenery and the richness of its soil with its houses, gardens
and fields transport you to an unreal place, a dream, where
it is difficult to imagine that anything could be taking
place beyond its horizon.
|
|
Cas
Concos has a long tradition in hospitality,
and possibly has most efficiently contributed in all campaigns
in promoting the islands image abroad. Proof of this is the
great amount of expatriates now living in this area where
one is immediately captured by its people’s charm and
tolerance.
Cas Concos has excellent craftsman especially in wood, a supermarket, fantastic
bars with very defined atmospheres, some very good restaurants and art
galleries. At night Abraixas bar is a social meeting place for a varied
wide range of nationalities. For many years it has been a chosen place
for artists and bohemians. |
|
| S'Horta is
situated on a kind of balcony, dominating one hundred and eighty
degrees of impressive coastline, with the protection of the mountains
from behind, hiding a beautiful valley with very fertile allotments
where country folk pass their in depth knowledge from generation
to generation, enabling them to pull out of the earth fruit and
vegetables found later in the local markets. The village has a
church, where selected musical events are organized, excellent
bars, which maintain their traditional village style flavour, a
supermarket and skilled craftsmen who artistically work with wood
and iron. |
|
S'Alqueria
Blanca is an enchanting
place. Its church with parochial centre, & the square in
the village being the centre of social activity with the market
on Tuesdays. Its bars where excellent dishes may be tasted
is also an ideal place to locate professional tradesman. It
has social security services & various sports installations.

courses, seminars, expositions etc. |
|
|
|
Cala
Figuera is an excellent
natural refuge for seaman, above all, those making long crossings.
Recently it has undergone some remodelling making it outstandingly
beautiful. If you like fish then you are in the right place.
You can also purchase freshly caught fish directly from the
fisherman at the best prices, this together with it’s
bars and terraces making it very appealing. |

Campos celebrates
festivals on the 9th of January in honour of its patron Saint
Julia, from the 7th to the 15th of August "La Mare de
Deu" in January the "Bonfires" of Saint Anthony,
at the beginning of February the pilgrimage "L'Ermita
de Sant Blai", at Easter the Resurrection "La Proceso
de L´Encontre", and the second Sunday in May is
the agricultural show, the third Tuesday in October "La
Fira". The most interesting places are "Nostre Senyora
de Gracia" the parochial church built in the Renaissance
style with a gothic alter from the XV century, by Gabriel Móger
known as the master builder of Campos.
The Parochial Museum founded in 1993 with paintings
by Murillo, Móger, Borras, Nadal, Torres and others, the
ancient hospital founded in the XV century with its oratory from
the XVI century, the convent and church of Minims of the XVII
century dedicated to Saint Francesc de Paula, the Baroque arch,
the facade of the Town Hall building XVI century, Can Cosmet
with Renaissance windows, Can Dameto and Can Bragues ancient
defence towers from the XVI century. Outside Campos you will
find the church called Poleo - Cristiania de Saint Fadrinet,
the hermitage oratory of Saint Blai of the XVIII century finished
in the XVI century, amongst others.
Close to the resort with thermal waters is
the tower of Saint Duri in Sa Rápita and more than 85
prehistoric excavations spread over the region, amongst which
stands out the Necrópolis Pretalaiotique of Saint Toni
Amery, and small villages Talaiotics de Saint Catlar, Son Perst
and Sa Vinyola. In front of the small island of SaGavina is the
beach of Es Trenc where a Punico - ebusita excavation can be
found affiliated to the Na Guardia factory in the Colonia. Campos
has a complex network of companies aimed towards the construction
and services sector.
The evolution of magnificent craftsman has
obtained a good balance between the fabrication of arts and crafts
and a competitive answer to the demanding market. Different bakeries
where all kinds of exquisite pastries can be tasted, good bars
in the village tended by kind hospitable people. Campos also
has a library, medical centre, art gallery, police, civil guard
and chemists. The markets are held on Thursday and Saturdays
and excellent seasonal fruit and vegetables are to be found.

|
| Ses
Salines is probably the best conserved area
ecologically speaking in the district. This is due to a large
part of the area belonging to only one family who look after
it with great dedication. Up until only a few years ago Ses
Salines based it’s economy on farming, but recently has
become more industrial due to skilled craftsmen adapting themselves
to the demands of the market, hence establishing an important
business network, highly qualitative, focused on the services
and construction sector. |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| The Town council is a directory of business for the
municipality. Ses Salines has an old folks centre, medical centre,
library, chemist, post office and police. The old part of the town
is very interesting where one can find an important prehistoric
excavation, a church and a tower, some buildings conserving their
typical village style. A small church also exists but needs urgent
restoring and until this is completed it has to remain closed.
Delicious Tapas (a variety of traditional food on small dishes),
or tasty filled bread rolls with a country flavour can be savoured.
Its festivals are of significant interest and attract thousands
of people each year |
|
| Sa
Ràpita is a low-key
holiday resort, maintaining a familiar character. It has a
civic centre where you can find a doctor’s surgery plus
information on all activities organized in the area. The sunsets,
plus the quality of some of the restaurants adds to it’s
attraction. It also has excellent yacht club, gifted with good
services |
|
|
|
Colonia
Sant Jordi; was until
recently a little fishing village. Today it’s a flourishing
tourist town. Principal attractions are the unbeatable beaches
that surround it, possibly the best on the island; the Salt
mines and port have kept their dimensions, not effecting the
environment. In some of the restaurants one can enjoy freshly
caught fish and seafood from Cabrera. Worth mentioning are
the exhibitions organized regularly in the Matisos Gallery;
to have a drink and listen to music one should visit the Tramontana;
it’s setting is unbeatable for enjoying the sunsets. |
|
| Llombards is
one of the most peaceful villages in the locality, where time
rhythmically passes in it’s two coffee bars. The village
people live their lives independently of the tourist season,
indicating their aim for a wise and rhythmically healthy lifestyle.
Also possessing four beaches with crystal clear water Cala Llombards
is the only one with services with various bars and a small food
shop. Also recommended, is the craftsmanship used in the production
of cheese at the local factory. |

Manacor has
31.000 habitants making it the second largest town on the island.
Its economy is principally based on the furniture industry,
pearls, tourism and more recently construction. The Town Hall
is situated in the Plaza del Convent and is open to the public
between 9am and 2pm.
Manacor has it’s own centre of Culture,
Education, and Linguistics, having a Library and Archive both
to be found in the Plaza del Convento. The archives of Manacor
are of a general nature housing roughly 20.000 documents with
a consultation and financing service, a photocopying and audio
- visual department
A school of music also exists and information
may be obtained at 23 Antonio Pascual Street. Manacor has a cinema
with sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and weekends and recently
remodelled racecourse, with marvellous installations.
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Municipal Theatre is a public foundation in Park
Avenue and is without doubt the largest culture exposition. There
is an all year round programme, working with first class, independent
groups. From the 28 of September to the 3 of October the IV Fair
of Manacor is organized, with groups assisting from Mallorca, Cataluña,
Valencia, Menorca, Ibiza and Andorra. Private enterprises also
arrange Jazz concerts in the market square. The CUM (Centre University
of Manacor) serves as a bridge between the UIB (University Balearic
Isles) and companies and their offices are at 12 Muntaner street. |
| |
|
|
|
|
|
The Social Service’s office where
information on human rights and voluntary associations are
at 12 Muntaner Street and The Sport Association and Tourist
board are in the Plaza del Convento.
Manacor has the only National Health Service
Hospital in the area, equipped with magnificent installations
and fully qualified personnel However Private Health Insurance
is well worth having to avoid long waiting lists. Also recommended
is the need to know how to locate a professional ambulance service
and let them know which hospital or clinic you wish to visit.
Included in Manacor are two small urbanizations
called Son Macia & Son Negre as well as the popular resort
of Porto Christo

|
| Felanitx,
you only have to walk through its streets to realise the importance
they held in other times. These days its habitants are a mixture
of Mallorcans, people from all regions of the Spanish peninsular
and increasingly large amount of non-Spanish residents. The Council
organizes courses in Catalan, which are available to those who
are interested in learning this language. There is a school for
adults, a school of music, fire brigade, social security office,
a cinema and a Cultural Centre that without a doubt is the best
in the district, offering throughout the year many cultural events
of all types, exhibitions, concerts and the presentation of books, |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
A deep interest in culture exits, which is
made evident, by the representation in the different fields of
art, at a national and international level, with works by well
known names like Andreu, Maimó, Rafael, Juan, Arnau, Pons
etc on display.
The district of Felanitx has the most beautiful
countryside. Felanitx has established an ample variety of skilled
craftsmen and professional, highly qualified tradesmen. One only
has to lose oneself in the maze of streets to find them. It’s
outskirts offer unlimited possibilities e.g. the Calvario, San
Salvador, or the Castle of Santuari, these being possibly the
roots of this tradition in culture which characterizes Felanitx.
Energy centres, forgotten in time are still there reminding us
of the importance of the past. Es Carritxó, Son Negre,
Son Prohens and Son Valls are living proof of Mallorcan idiosyncrasy,
where the countryside is maintained with a minimum level of degradation.
